Quest to order every Milano signature sandwich on the menu: The #20

Today was sandwich number 11 out of 73 signature sandwiches.

As of now, I am extremely confident in my ability to achieve my ultimate goal. I predict by that by the of this semester, I will have eaten (+/-2) 15 Milano sandwiches. After this semester, I will have four semesters remaining at Barnard. If I achieve my goal of 15 sandwiches this semester, I will have 58 to go. 58 divided by 4 is 14.5, meaning that I will have to continue at the approximately the same rate for my junior and senior years in order to make it to 73. Piece of cake. Easy as pie. Simple as a...sandwich?

My eleventh sandwich was the #20: Chipotle Turkey pepper jack cheese, arugula, chipotle and tomatoes

I will start off by saying my rating for this sandwich is a 7. To recap, my last sandwich, the #15, was rated a 5.5. As I've said, I am a very stingy grader. So although a 7 is not out of this world, I would still recommend this sandwich to anyone that is a chipotle fan. The pepper jack was of course the perfect complement to the chipotle, however the turkey was on the dry and bland side. But honestly, if the turkey had been very flavorful there may have been too much going on in the sandwich since pepper jack and chipotle alone have more than enough flavor. Using arugula as the green was a nice touch, and I'm always a fan of a freshly sliced tomato on a sandwich (it soaked up some extra chipotle—[insert culinary "mwah!" here]. All Milano bread is to die for so the multigrain roll was perfect. That being said, I was still hoping for something better. I'm not sure what exactly, but I think I was hoping for more of a chipotle wow. I have a chipotle problem, which is why I didn't go near that section of the signature sandwiches until today. If I see anything, and I mean anything on a menu with chipotle (extra points for chipotle mayo), it's a done deal. Meal decided. But because I'm obsessed with variety, I thought I'd branch out a bit. Not today though. There are enough sandwiches with chipotle components on the menu that I decided today was the day.

What was not wow-worthy about this? I think I was expecting more chipotle, honestly. There was a thin coating, but I guess I should have specified while ordering that I wanted them to go heavy on it. I suppose it's because I'm a fairly small person and let's face it, Barnard girls aren't famous for having big appetites. God knows I spent enough time restricting my food intake to know that. When I go into Milano I am saddened by the group of girls crowding by the salad counter, gabbing about their love of brussels sprouts. Really? Who goes into a gourmet sandwich to buy brussels sprouts?? Plus, the only way I can think of someone loving brussels sprouts is if they're sauteed in a shitload of butter and mixed with bacon. Just sayin'.

Anyway, this sandwich was quite delicious. The reason why the rating was just a 7 is because I have my hopes set on this ultimate, supreme, heavenly sandwich that I know I will be served at Milano. A few of the sandwiches I've had there have been at least an 8 or 9, so I know it's out there. I wish I'd had my blog back then but alas, I'm still new at this. So far I have to say my favorite has been the #22: Cajun Roasted Turkey w/ French Brie, romaine lettuce, tomato and honey mustard. But I'm still searching for that glorious 10.
